13th Annual Ancestors Ball: A Powerful Celebration of Legacy
UA Online & UASC scholar Uzuri Ojuok channels great chef, Edna lewis during the Ancestor’s Ball!
On October 31, 2025, both Uhuru Academy Online and UASC International came together for the 13th Annual Ancestors Ball, a cherished tradition that honors our connection to those who came before us. Students dressed as and presented on ancestors of their choosing—from personal family ancestors to celebrated figures, including celebrities, athletes, activists, kings, and queens. Each presentation was a powerful act of remembrance and education, as our scholars brought history to life through their research, creativity, and passion.
Parents, teachers, and community stakeholders showed up in force to support and encourage our scholars, creating an atmosphere of collective pride and cultural affirmation. Ancestor veneration in African societies goes back thousands of years, representing a sacred practice of honoring lineage, wisdom, and legacy. We can think of no better time than now to empower our students and families to recapture that energy and continue this timeless tradition. The Ancestors Ball is more than an event—it is a reaffirmation of who we are, where we come from, and the powerful legacy we carry forward into the future.
